Why move the clock forward one hour?

We have been using these times in the Netherlands since the oil crisis of 1977. This way we can enjoy the outdoor light longer in the summer months and save a lot of energy. By setting the clock forward an hour, it takes longer before it gets light in the morning and it takes longer in the evening before it gets dark again. Our southern neighbors in Belgium have to move the clock forward one hour at exactly the same time, but they have come up with a different name for it: Belgians call it summer time.

When does daylight saving time start in 2024?

Daylight saving time always starts on the last Sunday in March. The exact date on which this time starts therefore varies every year.
