Animal day
Meaning of Animal Day
Animal Day is the day on which we give extra attention to the animals. On this day, people want to show that animals have rights and that animals should be protected.
Date
The date of Animal Day comes from the feast day of Francis of Assisi. This holiday took place on October 4. Francis of Assisi was a man who cared about the poor and wanderers, but also about plants and animals. At an international congress of animal protection associations in 1929, October 4 was officially declared World Animal Day. The first animal day took place on October 4, 1930.
Celebration
Animal Day is celebrated by pampering animals extra. Pet shops often have special offers to pamper pets extra. In addition, Animal Day is now widely used by animal rights activists. On that day they ask for extra attention to the rights of animals.
